Leanne is the youngest of 6 children, she grew up on a farm Southwest of Mayerthorpe. She graduated from Mayerthorpe High and went on to complete a two year program in Correctional Services.
Her favourite sport is baseball, and while playing in a tournament in Millet, she met Kevin. In 1997 they were married. Shortly after, she and Kevin decided that city life was not for them, so they moved to an acreage in the Spring of 1998.
Quickly, they realize they had way too much grass to cut!! It was about this same time that Leanne saw a brochure on alpacas, and soon she and Kevin were checking out alpaca farms. By July of 1998 Sunnyhill Alpacas was established; they purchased a herd consisting of 9 alpacas.
In 2002, the Sept’s moved to a larger farm. This is where they discovered they had spare buildings, and they couldn’t have that. The old calving barn was turned into a Mill, and together with her sisters, Twisted Sisters Fibre Mill was officially in business.
Leanne learned to knit at a very young age. She has tried many different crafts over the years, but knitting has always been her go to. BUT now she had her very own yarn. From birthing to shearing to spinning, it is all done right on the farm.
Who doesn’t like a bit of color added? One summer day Leanne experimented with a little dye kit she had purchased, and from that day on she was hooked!
Years later and with a move to their new farm near New Sarepta in 2020, Leanne and Kevin enjoy a herd of 75 alpacas, 4 dogs and 9 cats. Leanne and her sisters continue to mill, mainly just for themselves now.
